I finished the exhaust cap for the Earthmaster tractor tonight.
It might not be as purty or polished as a store bought one but it was made with materials on hand by me, just like an old time farmer would have done if he needed one. (Of course, a lot of old time farmers would have just dropped a tin can over it like I was doing and called it good.😉)
First I figured out how to make the hinge saddle.
Then I mounted the flapper to the clamp and thread locked the bolts.
After that I mounted it on the tractor.
After the first try I discovered that it needed more weight on the tail. I added a small hose clamp and wired several washers to it till it had just the right balance.
Then I gave it a nice coat of paint.
Here is a video of it in action both before and after adding the weight.
I'm happy with it. Like I said, not the best looking but it is functional and did not cost me any thing but a little time as I had all the materials and parts on hand.
Country ingenuity right there.
Like the song says
'A Country Boy Will Survive!'

ReplyDeleteIt might not be as pretty or polished as a store-bought one, but I made it using materials I already had on hand—just like an old-time farmer would have done when he needed something. There’s a simple, homemade charm in it that feels as warm and genuine as the lessons we often see in kids movies Hindi, where creativity and heart matter more than perfection. Of course, many old-time farmers probably would’ve just dropped a tin can over it, like I was doing, and called it good. 😉
ReplyDeleteLove seeing craftsmanship like this — the handmade touch gives it real character. The hinge saddle idea is clever, and honestly projects like this have their own Beat Flow that you just can’t get from store-bought parts. Old-school problem solving at its best!
