Three wheeler carb BROKEN!

The carb on my Honda three wheeler was leaking and clogged so like any good shade tree mechanic I ordered a rebuild kit to fix it.
Followed the manual,
Started taking it apart, step by step.  Had one screw break on a cover but it could be easily drilled and tapped.

Got it all apart except for the last jet,

That last one was stuck, then suddenly it came free.  Or so I thought.

Turns out, the rotten housing broke.  Now I have to completely replace the carb.  I guess this one was just too far gone to be repaired.
Sad thing is, if it had been older and made from cast iron instead of cast aluminum it most likely would still be good.
At first I thought I had done something wrong but when I looked closer at the break I could tell that the aluminum body was rotten and would have broken soon anyway.  I guess it is better that it broke on the bench instead of on the trail.
Silver linings and all that.
Thing that ticks me off, is when I searched for a replacement carb, I found one for less than I paid for the rebuild kit!
A little due diligence next time could save me some $$.
