Antique engine work

I figured out how to fix the valve seat tool at home.

I used the live center on my wood lathe and chucked the tool guide up between centers.
It had enough friction to spin it and allow me to file/stone the guide rod down to the appropriate size.

Here's the setup and tools I used:

Tool chucked up between centers.

Mill file to take heavy material off.

Medium diamond paddle to smooth and fine tune.

I used the fine and super fine paddles and buffing pad to give it a good polish.
It now works properly.
Guide rod fits snugly into valve guide.

Here is the valve seat after I ground it, ready for lapping.

I lapped the valve in but did not get a pick of it after lapping.
Now I have to check/adjust the valve clearance and reassemble it to see if it has compression.
It should now as the valve seems to seat fully.
If I have to go any deeper I would probably have to see about replacing the valve seat.
While it is possible it is not something I am set up to do.

More to come.
