So when I was working on the Brigs NPR6 engine for the walk behind tractor I saw what I thought was a fuel leak in the tank.
Today I decided to address that issue.
I removed the fuel tank and filled it with water.
No sign of leaks, great.
While I have it off, this would be a good time to sandblast and paint it.

After sandblasting I discovered not one but multiple pinholes in the tank.
After researching the best method of repair I settled on JB Weld epoxy as the safest, easiest, and cheapest (I already had some JB Weld) method.
Tank blasted and JB Weld applied. |
I also picked up the parts to make a new fuel line as the hillbilly fix I had on it before leaked badly.
Now to wait at least 24 hours for the JB Weld to cure.
On a related note,
I purchase a small canister sandblaster from Tractor Supply to blast the tank when I picked up the blast media.
This might be good with medium or fine grit but does not work with the coarse grit. |
I should have done a little homework first as the unit I got cant handle the coarse blast grit.
It keeps clogging up.
My homemade sandblaster worked just fine though.
Homemade gravity fed sandblaster. |
I really need to buy or build a blast booth though.
I went through 4 lbs of grit in about 10 min with this.
But that is a project for the future.
This got the job done for now.
Here is the video that showed me how to make my sandblaster.
